SSL Certificate (HTTPS) For Web Eminence Clients

What is SSL?

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a form of website security that encrypts information that is transferred on your site. It’s often used on e-commerce sites to secure the transaction data including credit card info. You can see if a site is using SSL by looking for an “s” after “http” in the address bar. You can also look for the green lock icon in most browsers.

You can watch the video to the right to learn more about SSL.

Do I Need SSL?

In the past, SSL was only installed on e-commerce sites and other sites where confidential info was being transferred. Now, SSL is becoming more widely used and recommended.

It was announced in 2017, that the Google Chrome browser will begin showing any site without SSL as “insecure”. If you’re not transmitting any sensitive data, SSL is really not required on your site, but because these warnings will be displaying to most of your website visitors in the years to come, it will be smart to get SSL installed on your site.

How Much Does SSL Cost?

SSL certificates can be purchased from many web companies. Godaddy currently sells DV (Domain Validated) SSL certificates for $50-70/year. Then you need to pay someone to actually install the certificate.

If you’re one of my clients, you’re in luck! Because I hold a license for cPanel on my server, I have SSL certificates included for all domains hosted on my server.

I can request and install an SSL certificate on your site for a one-time fee of $75. Once it is installed, you’ll not need to pay yearly because the SSL certificate will automatically renew every year at no cost as long as your site is hosted on my server.
